Academia - Assistant professor
Assistant professor is the full time position in which most academic careers start.
Assistant professors can get tenure, meaning job security after a review. However this review doesn’t happen after six to fifteen years. After this they have more freedom to teach anything they wish. Professor without tenure have to be more careful with what they teach.
This is not a good fit for me. Wait fifteen years for job security and to teach whatever I want. Plus I have no interest in teaching.

I would love to teach later on as I get older but not as a Professor, just as a teacher in High School or maybe even a Junior high or elementary.

This might be a good career for me on both sides. I have the necessary traits or I'm on my way there but I need job security! I would hate to have to move back and forth thanks to a lack of job security and California's budget cuts.

Industry Report week 7
The name and brief description of the career option.
Careers In Academia in the Audio Industry
More specifically, I will be writing my topic about becoming an Instructor. An instructor or an Assistant Professor make approximately 27k to 28k. Their responsibility is to simply put: teach. They are required to keep teaching and feel at home to be a person that can teach confidently his knowledge and subject of his specialty. The assistant professor or an instructor’s goal is to receive tenure. A tenure is a way for an instructor to be able to be competent in his career of choice and role. Once an instructor receives tenure, he or she should be able to freely teach other subjects related. The tenure takes about six to seven years and some times all the way to 15 years. After you make tenure, you are promoted to an associate professor. At this point your salary goes up as well to 45k to 75k. After associate professor, you are a full time professor.
Since twenty years ago, being in the academic role of audio industry wasn’t as well established as it is now due to the increase in technological advancement requiring more teachers to be entrepreneurs. Since then, there have been more students who have been enrolling in school with these types of curriculums. Such schools as U of Colorado, U of Michigan, NYU, are only some of the schools in the U.S. who provides degree in audio. One of the most famous schools in the United States is the ‘Berklee College of Music.’ But now days there are simply put, more options than ever before due to vocational and post secondary schools.
A summary of the pros and cons, personal traits necessary for success, entry-level requirements, etc.
The book states that the most rewarding part of becoming a teacher or an instructor in the academia is seeing the success of one of your students making it in the real world. You teach hundreds of students everyday and meet many new peers and colleagues on a daily basis that makes you happy about being with minds more brilliant then your own. The academia has good benefits, you only work nine months of the year, and tenure; which means security of a steady job. But the fallbacks are its dedication to making that tenure since it can lead to delays of constant struggle to get that tenure. Your pay can also take its toll due to the low pay relative to other industry. There are lots of administrative work and instructors often have to focus on getting degrees more then other industries in different fields.
In order to work in the academia, you should be patient due to many different personalities you have to deal with. You have to be curios due to constant environmental changes in the industry and must have the presentational skills since you are teaching to people who trusting you to do the job correctly. You must have some sort of entrepreneurialship since you are sharing you knowledge and gaining new as well.
In order to put your shoes in the door of academia, you must also goto school. The book focus on your ability to stay academically proficient and signify the importance of having degrees in four year college then the vocational level education. The book states that you should consider highly of going to master’s school and also as far as PH.D.
An examination of whether or not this career is a good fit.
I think overall, it isn’t a bad choice in career. I think it is important to appreciate that they are people out there who listens and learns from you and turn out to be successful. I think that is the most important aspect in human life a person should have. It is something I can consider.

1. Assistant professor is where you would most likely start off in this industry. The Ass. Prof. is in charge of helping the professor run the class. This involves a lot of hard work in grading papers and making sure the class runs smoothly.
2. Pros- You will be working right away in the learning environment and learning hands on. You also would be working part time which allows you to do other things while having the job. It is also only a few classes at a time so you can take time off if you want to from teaching and not be in a burden because of it.
Cons. Almost no job security in these lower positions. And even if your are tenure there is still a risk of losing your job. There are no benefits and pay is really low. This wont even cover your student loans in order to get to this position.
3. I don't think that i would be able to handle the stress and hard work required for these positions. I might pick up a class or two here and there but i don't want a job where i will have the fear of losing my job everyday.
