Why they call it Sound Reinforcement by Fred Roger
What are the main points of the essay?
In the article, “Why they call it Sound Reinforcement” by Fred Roger, defines the term ‘Sound Reinforcement’ and applies his own theories and thoughts on the term and mechanics behind it. He states that Sound Reinforcement is a term used in the industry and it is another way to describe how an audio system receives the audio signal and then it applies its mechanic signal to amplify it to the crowd. He feels that the term is misleading in a way because in reality, the audio system is a double-edged sword. If you know how to use the audio mechanics properly, it can sound great live, but at the same time, if you do not know your mechanics, then it can damage the whole show including the presence of the performers on stage. Basically put, the author feels that the term is misleading because the way live sound engineers produce sound using the audio signal is simply thinking that all it has to do is amplify when there is more to it then just making it just louder for the audience. The author thinks that since the engineers are just reinforcing, the outcome of the signal enhanced by these audio tools create too much erroneous sounds including horrible feedbacks and annoying acoustical sounds. The author feels that a good live sound engineer must follow certain guidelines. First, like a good artist, they must picture the overall canvas. Second, the engineer should recognize the size of the audience and the size of the concert. The big concerts to small concerts all require different approach to audio system applications. And third, you must realize the quality of each instrument accordingly to the venue; this way you can maximize the quality of your output.
Did the article convince you one way or the other about the feasibility of a career in this field? I just do not see myself being in a place where there are too many problems that can arise and be responsible for everything bad that may happen. It is too stressful for me because I simply worry too much.

P A 101, I chose this because I am a novice person in this career. I believe this will give more insight into live sound. I
2. What are the main points of the essay?
In this articles main points it talks about the P A system which is the mixer, amps, and speakers. Sound reinforcement is necessary to performances to reach an audience in places like a church, concert hall, and coliseum. It also talks about the need to know the size of the band and how many instruments are being used. I basically talks about knowing all the details so the correct P A system can be purchased.
3. Did the article convince you one way or the other about the feasibility of a career in this field? Please explain.

Borgerson, Bruce. "Is it P.A. or SR?" I chose this article because it caught my eye and got thinking is it that? or not...? So that is really why I chose it.
What are the main points of the essay?
Pin points basically talking about the differences between them two and why they are called PA's and SR's. Which basically depends on the technology and capabilities. Which really they address towards both distinctions.
Did the article convince you one way or the other about the feasibility of a career in this field? Please explain.
Yes, because to me I love doing Sound and the way I see it is, PA's are for little backyard or regular Rehearsal studios for also like a garage. Its good way to start when it comes to getting your foot towards the door to Sound Reinforcements, which to me are the Sound Boards, Monitors, etc. That's all.

Why They Call it "Sound Reinforcement"
I choose “Sound Reinforcement” by Fred J Roger because I’ve heard of sound reinforcement but never knew what it was and I wanted to find out.
The article talks about what a sound reinforcement does and how it differs from other things. A sound reinforcement doesn’t act as a source of sound. It can’t create sound, it can only amplify it. This is used in live concerts to help bring out the vocals.
This is not something I would want to do full time. Maybe as a start to get my feet wet until I can the job that I want.

1. Identify the article you have selected and why you chose it.
The article I chose was An Insiders Look at the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound. The reason why I chose this article was because it stuck out to me the most, the pictures and details of the road and the involvement and reality of the job and participation it took. It had real good detail.
2. What are the main points of the essay?
The main point of the essay is that being a roadie requires a massive amount of work and time and investment. To do what they do, you have to be prepared and constant and creative. It conveyed this to me by discussing the amount of equipment they'd use and bring along! The Wall of Sound spec's were amazingly massive and what I thought was a joke or exaggeration until I saw the pictures.
3. Did the article convince you one way or the other about the feasibility of a career in this field? Please explain.
The article did convince me. There were no doubts in my mind that after reading this article, I would ever question the efforts of a roadie. The pictures and stories given were an inspiration but pushed me in the opposite direction to ever wanting to be one.

Insiders’s look at the Wall of Sound
I chose this article because I never seen anything like it in y entire life. I thought it would be interesting to find out more about this wall of sound and why it was built in the first place
2. What are the main points of the essay?
The design of the wall of sound took months and its purpose to the band was a dope monitoring experience and overall concert experience.
The death of the wall and its after life on ebay and many other places sold and also recycled to be used in home hi-fi systems. Richard Pechner had no formal training in audio but just decided to he would learn form his peers Dan Healy, Bear and Ron Wickersham. Richard had a background in carpentry that steered him to setup and run the cabinet shop which prototyped and then manufactured all the cabinets in the wall.
They spent about 275,000 on the system. The drummer refused to play under the Center Cluster so they moved his drum stage toward the front a bit. To kill feedback they used 2 B&K caps in and out of phase pairs as differential noise canceling mics.
3. Did the article convince you one way or the other about the feasibility of a career in this field? Please explain.
Yes. There are always going to be challenges in live sound but the overall experience is what viewers are going to remember. I want to be able to do the same and create a something that makes a concert experience greater than just what the eyes can take in.
